Dr. Greg Matt
grew up in a small town in Iowa and was inspired to become a
veterinarian by the care and compassion displayed by his family’s
veterinarian. Following graduation from
Iowa State University then Iowa State University School of
Veterinary Medicine with his D.V.M., he joined a busy practice in
Dallas, Texas with a large caseload. There he developed extensive
experience in internal medicine and surgery. In 1985 he moved to
Houston, Texas purchasing Mt. Houston Animal Clinic in north
Houston. Then in 1996 he purchased Beechnut Animal Clinic located
in southwest Houston. Dr. Matt strongly
believes in staying current in the ever-changing world of
veterinary medicine, and continues to practice on the leading edge-
whether it be medical protocol, pharmacology or technology .He
particularly enjoys tackling difficult to diagnose cases and is
always searching for new technology to support his growing staff of
doctors. In Dr. Matts’ own words
“The most rewarding aspect of having practices with multiple
doctors is you get to surround yourself and work with incredibly
intelligent, compassionate, and talented people. I honestly feel
honored that they have chosen to work with me.” When Dr. Matt isn’t
running from clinic to clinic he’s running from his teenage sons’
lacrosse games to his eleven year old daughters’ basketball games
with his wife Robin. When he finally gets a
chance to relax you can find him ocean kayaking, boating, playing
electric guitar, scuba diving or building computers. The family pets are Fisher a rescued golden retriever, Champ a
local shelter dog, and Gus-Gus a black bear hamster. And on a
regular basis there is an extra golden retriever hanging out with
the gang. The Matt’s are a foster home for the Golden Beginnings

Dr. Doug Humphrey, a native Texan, began working at Beechnut Animal Clinic in February of 2005 as an Associate Veterinarian. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, and went on to graduate from Virginia Tech with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He and his wife Lauren (also a veterinarian) practiced in San Diego, California for a few years before heading back to Texas where she accepted the position of veterinarian at the Houston Zoo.
Dr. Humphrey was inspired to be a veterinarian at an early age because of his love for animals, science, and a good mystery. “Pets can’t tell you how they feel, where it hurts or when their symptoms began. You have to be somewhat of a medical detective”, said Dr. Humphrey. To determine a diagnosis you must use all your senses, have a keen sense of observation and incorporate diagnostic evaluation. Dr. Humphrey is our medical Sherlock Holmes and really loves the challenge of problem solving difficult cases.
Dr. Humphrey is a member of the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practice, which recognizes veterinarians who achieve high levels of continuing education. He is also active in the Harris County Veterinary Medical Association, serving as President-elect for the 2010 year.
Dr. Humphrey and his wife spend most of their free time with their children, Annabelle and Tyler. They also share their home with two dogs (Marlie and Linus), and three cats (Zoe, Bergen and Bella). For fun and relaxation he plays soccer, enjoys running, attends Houston Dynamo games and likes to watch movies. |

Dr. Anna McBride is a Houston native. Growing up in Alief, she knew from a young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian. Her parents tolerated having “a zoo” in their home, which at one point in time consisted of over 15 animals. She attended Texas A&M University undergraduate school as well as Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine. After an internship in Boston, she was hired on to Beechnut Animal Hospital in April of 2008.
Her love of veterinary medincine comes not only from the joy she gets out of being with animals, but the knowledge that she can help ease pain, cure diseases and generally help the lives of her patients as well as the people who care for them. She also loves having a challenging and yet very rewarding career. In her free time, she enjoys scuba diving, traveling, reading and spending time with her husband, Danny. She has one pit-bull mix that is a rescue from Beechnut. |
